EVERYBODY PANIC! I'm serious Red Wings fans, EVERYBODY PANIC!

Remember earlier today, when I said that there was no need for Red Wings fans to panic? As of tonight, I've changed my mind.

You now have my permission to totally overreact in any and every irrational way when it comes to the Red Wings chances in going deep in the playoffs.

If you've been watching tonight's game with the Nordalanche, you know why....From Helen St. James blog at the Freep.

Quick update here from the Pepsi Center: About six minutes into the game, Nicklas Lidstrom – the single most important player on the Red Wings – has left the ice after a monstrous hit into the boards by Ian Laperriere.

Lidstrom suffered a right-knee injury and won't return to the game, according to team spokesman John Hahn.Lidstrom suffered a right-knee injury and won't return to the game, according to team spokesman John Hahn.

Um...Yeah. Pardon me...

NOOOOOO! SHITFUCK! JESUS FUCKING CHRIST ON A GOD DAMN HOCKEY STICK, THE WINGS ARE FUCKED! NOT LIDSTROM! ANYONE BUT LIDSTROM!

Sorry 'bout that, I'm back.

All we know the is the Red Wings' Hart Trophy candidate, and Norris Trophy lock, has hurt his knee, and took a huge shot to the head. The Versus crew tells us Lidstrom's not concussed, but the knee...No one is saying anything other than it's injured. All I can say is it didn't look good.

Cross your fingers, toes and any other bodily appendage you can think of. If the injury turns out to be serious, and Lidstrom's out for any length of time...I know, I don't want to think about it either...

Edit 10:00 PM: The beat writers all have the same quote regarding Nick Lidstrom's knee injury, from Wings spokesman John Hahn.

"It doesn't look too serious," Hahn said, "but he is being kept out as a precaution."

That's all well and good, but hockey teams are NEVER very forthcoming when it comes to injuries. We aren't out of he woods just yet.

And for what it's worth, since Lidstrom went down, Aaron Downey has been kicking ass and taking names against the 'lanche. It was beautiful to see Downey step up, and take down some Nords...

  1. Yeah, you're dead on about the "not forthcoming" part. Lidstrom could have lost the leg at the knee and the Wings would be saying "day to day."
